I momentarily like Bush

When she was in town last month, Hillary Clinton dissed the world champs. Yesterday, George Bush displayed slightly better political savvy. From today's Daily Herald:

President Bush, who used to own part of the Texas Rangers, offered praise to his former competitor Friday during his visit to Chicago.

"Congratulations to the White Sox," Bush said of the World Series champions, "all you longtime White Sox fans and you recent converts."

That drew laughter from the crowd in the Hilton ballroom, as did his subsequent friendly jab at the expense of House Speaker Dennis Hastert, a Cubs fan.

"We choppered in. The speaker said, 'There's the home of the Cubs,'" recounted Bush, referring to Wrigley Field. "I said, well, Mr. Speaker, maybe next year."
