Sidewalk art or nature's graffiti artists?

There is a benefit to walking around with your head hanging in shame. You rarely step in dog poo. And once in a while you spot something that brightens your day a bit.

When someone puts in a new sidewalk, they often worry about kids writing something in the wet cement. Rarely do they think that a bird or squirrel might leave a mark.

On Lincoln, south of Wilson

On Roscoe, east of Damen

Don't worry, no animals were harmed in the making of this blog.

Lovely! Though I do wonder how you managed to make a squirrel shaped hole in the ice....

That's actually a squirrel-shaped hole in the sidewalk! I'll return another time on a sunny day to get a better picture.

Squirrel? Really? The tail screams rat.

When rats drop out of trees and into wet concrete, we're all in trouble

I thought squirrels WERE rats, just with fluffy tails. I don't see a trail showing his escape...d'you think it died like that on the sidewalk?

Yes, he escaped ... on a dogsled!
Actually, it's not a very good picture at all (took five from different angles, none really worked), but you can see his trail. There are a couple of footprints at 11 o'clock in the picture.
